Hey everyone! I'm considering buying a new power supply for my setup. I've found the Corsair 850WX for $139 and the 1000WX for $159. I'm planning to run a 5080 GPU (which I'll OC to about 400W) along with a 7800X3D processor, likely at stock settings. I'm not a huge fan of the idea of spending more just for future-proofing, but with my overclocking plans and the need for some headroom (I've heard you should ideally use only about 80% of the PSU's capacity), I'm wondering if the 1000W is really necessary in my case.

If you're not planning on upgrading to something like a 4090 or 5090 anytime soon, then you might be fine with the 850W. But if you're thinking about overclocking, then yeah, I'd recommend the 1000W just to be safe.
850W should work fine, but given the transient loads of the 5080, the 1000W model isn’t a bad idea. Just make sure it’s an ATX 3.1 PSU for future compatibility.
I have a 7800X3D and a 3080, and during stress tests, I saw around 550W at the wall. So for your setup, 850W should generally be sufficient unless you're pushing it hard.
For your 5080, they suggest at least 850W, but since you're overclocking, it wouldn't hurt to grab the 1000W. A little extra headroom can go a long way.
Honestly, for just $20 more, the 1000W might be worth it in case you want to overclock more in the future or if you upgrade your GPU down the line.
