Do I really need a monitor for my desktop setup?

I've been using my TV as a monitor for my desktop, but after experiencing Nvidia Driver crashes, I did a complete clean install of Windows 11. Unfortunately, this caused more issues, and now my desktop won't display anything after the BIOS boot. When I connect the HDMI output from my motherboard to the TV, Windows shows a pretty unusable screen at 640p resolution, which is way too large and makes it impossible to click some buttons during the Windows installation. Right now, I'm stuck at the Wi-Fi setup phase where I can't press any menu buttons because of the scaling issues. I thought about using my phone or laptop as a display and even bought an HDMI to USB C cable, but it turns out I would need a video capture card for that. Should I just get a new monitor to make the whole process easier? I haven't picked one up yet because there's a storm coming, and I'll be stuck at home for a couple of days—was hoping to do some gaming, but that's not looking good right now.

If you can connect through an Ethernet cable instead of relying on Wi-Fi, that might help Windows install the necessary graphics drivers quicker. Alternatively, check if your TV has any resolution settings that could make it easier to navigate the installs. If all else fails, getting a spare monitor would be a great idea. You could also try using some keyboard shortcuts to enter your Wi-Fi password, even if it’s tricky without a clear display. Maybe a friend could help guide you through that process.

So true! Getting a monitor would definitely simplify things. You could even ask a neighbor if they have a non-4K TV or monitor to lend you for a bit. It’s worth a shot!
