Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating problem with my laptop. The charging port isn't holding the charger, which means it won't charge at all. I took it to a technician, and they told me that they might need to completely erase the computer's memory, and the repair could take up to a month. Is erasing the memory truly necessary for a simple charging issue? And honestly, does it really need to take that long? I'm just not convinced this is that serious.

It sounds like the delay might be due to waiting for parts rather than the actual repair time. A charging port issue usually doesn’t mean you need to wipe your hard drive. If you're not comfortable with their diagnosis, you can just ask for your laptop back and get a second opinion elsewhere.
A month sounds excessive for just fixing a charging port! Unless there are major parts issues or shipping delays, it should take way less time. And erasing your data for that repair? Complete overkill! Just make sure your charger itself is working too.
Your charging port might be damaged, but if a good repair technician is handling it, this should not take a month. Sometimes ports can be detached and fixed without needing a full motherboard replacement. As for erasing data, that isn’t necessary unless it’s an old, cheap laptop with soldered storage, which is rare. Most laptops can have their drives removed for safety during repairs.
It might be that the shop is just busy and struggling to get parts. But regarding wiping your data, that's a strange move; a lot of shops say that to cover themselves from liability if something goes wrong. You might not actually lose any data during the repair.
