Hey everyone! I'm currently building my first PC and I'm a bit confused about whether I really need Windows. What is it exactly for? I could use some clear explanations from those more experienced than me! Thanks!

You can download Windows 11 directly from Microsoft as a free trial. If you find you like it after trying it out, you can then purchase it for a full version.

Windows manages your files, desktop, and all your apps. While you could choose another OS, if you're unfamiliar with them, it might complicate things. Installing Windows is usually the easiest route. Just make sure to adjust some settings for privacy, like turning off telemetry.

You don’t necessarily need Windows, but you do need some type of operating system. I would suggest sticking with Windows for your first build because it’s user-friendly and great for gaming; alternatives like Linux might be a bit more complex for beginners. Just a heads up!

Windows is the operating system that your computer runs on. It's necessary because your PC won't function without an operating system. Think of it as the software that manages everything on your computer.
