I'm pretty new to all this tech stuff, but I noticed that modern i7 processors only come with the chip itself and require purchasing a separate cooling fan. Is that the standard now?

Exactly! Most users who opt for an i7 want better cooling anyway, so including a stock cooler would just be a waste of resources.
When it comes to specific models, some i7s like the 'non-K' variants still include a stock cooler. However, if you're aiming to run them over 65 watts, a better cooling solution is definitely recommended. Just a heads-up: I wouldn't suggest Intel right now since their newer socket types are already becoming obsolete, and the recent generations have been quite power-hungry.
In general, if a CPU has a TDP over 65 watts, it typically won't come with a cooler, whether it's Intel or AMD. So keep that in mind!
Thanks man!
It’s not just Intel; AMD has shifted to the same approach. Only entry-level CPUs come with a cooler included, so you might want to plan for that when you're shopping around.
Damn!
Yeah, that's pretty much the norm these days. Intel's stock coolers are known for being subpar, so anyone getting an i7 usually prefers to grab a better cooling solution anyway. It's just not worth it to rely on what's included.
Okay! Thanks for the heads-up.

I totally understand, I shall opt for Ryzen instead. I currently have an Intel motherboard but I'm considering the 12700F.
