I came across a video that suggested installing two M.2 SSDs might make them slower on certain motherboards, but I'm not sure if that's the case with my Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI. This is my first time using two M.2 drives, and I'm curious about whether there are any specific installation guidelines I should follow to prevent any slowdown due to lane sharing or anything like that. Any insights would be really appreciated!

Every motherboard is different when it comes to bandwidth sharing. For your setup, just make sure not to install the second NVMe in the m.2_3 slot. If you do that, it could disable other PCIe slots entirely! So stick to the primary slots for best results.
Nope, having two M.2 NVMe drives won't slow each other down on your Asus board. You're good to go!
Straight to the point, thanks! I saw that issue with PCIe lanes and just wanted to clarify.
It’s possible for drives on chipset connections to slow down slightly, but if one drive connects directly to the CPU, you should be fine. Just make sure the primary slot is used for at least one of them, and you won’t experience issues.
Thanks for the detailed info, much appreciated!
While it’s technically true that some motherboards may reduce speeds when using certain M.2 slots, the real-world impact is negligible. You'll likely never hit those max speeds anyway, and the slots can be affected by using other peripherals too. Essentially, just don’t worry about it unless you're maxing out everything at once!
Thanks for breaking that down! So are you saying it doesn't matter which slot I use since external factors play a bigger role in performance?
Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind when I install!
