Does my UPS need an upgrade or is it defective?

I've been facing an issue with my UPS lately and I could use some advice. I have a PC setup with an RX 6700 XT, a Ryzen 7 5700G, a 2K monitor, and a 650W power supply, paired with a 1000VA/500W UPS. After about 30 minutes of gaming, the UPS starts beeping and then shuts down about 15 minutes later. Is it just not powerful enough, or could it be defective? Thanks for your help!

Using a wattage calculator can really help clarify things. From my estimate, you might be pretty much at the limit of what your current UPS can handle, especially considering the monitor's energy draw.

If it's beeping and switching to battery mode but only provides a runtime of 15 minutes, that’s fairly ideal for UPS use; they’re meant for safe shutdown, not long-term power. But if it’s shutting down without switching to battery, you might have a problem with the batteries themselves, and they could be replaceable.

It sounds like you might need a higher-capacity UPS. You should factor in the wattage of your monitor along with your power supply. A good idea would be to aim for an 850W UPS. The VA rating isn't as crucial for your setup, focus on the wattage you need.

Just remember that while you should focus on watts, the VA rating does have its importance. Some devices, especially monitors, might not align perfectly with the wattage, leading to shutdowns. So make sure to check that out before buying.
