I'm a sysadmin at a company that's expanding internationally, moving from 60 employees in the US to potentially hiring 20-30 more across the UK, Germany, and Canada in the next six months. I've been really diving into the complexities of international equipment logistics, which seem pretty daunting. I'm looking at services like GroWrk and Workwize to help, but I'm skeptical about whether they deliver on their promises. I'd love to hear from anyone who has used these services!
Specifically, I want to know: Do these services genuinely handle customs well, or do shipments still get held up? Is the equipment pre-configured for new hires, or do they spend days setting up? How does the recovery process work if someone leaves the company—do laptops really get retrieved? Is the cost justified compared to managing local vendors ourselves? Any major issues or factors we should consider?

We're actually using a different service called Firstbase, but I think they operate similarly to GroWrk. We've had a great experience with them for the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, and Portugal. They handle all aspects of purchasing, shipping, and recovering hardware, which has made everything way more efficient for us. We've been with them for 2.5 years now, and they’ve consistently improved their offerings, making my job a lot easier. Happy to share more details if you're interested!
We've been using GroWrk for about 8 months now, and honestly, they make the whole process a breeze. Customs issues? Almost non-existent since they take care of everything. Equipment arrives pre-configured, allowing our new hires to hit the ground running. Recovering devices internationally works well too. The cost is absolutely worth it when I compare it to the time and effort we saved managing everything ourselves! We also checked out Workwize, but their pricing was higher without any added value. No significant issues with GroWrk at all.
If you want your laptops tangled in customs for weeks without clear communication, and face unexpected charges, then definitely consider Workwize. My experience with them was frustrating to say the least; it felt like the biggest waste of resources. I wouldn't recommend them based on the issues I faced—definitely not a wise choice for us.
