Experiencing Extreme Disk Latency While Downloading Games on a Patriot P210 SSD – Is It Failing?

Hey folks, I'm really struggling with my SSD while trying to download or update games on Steam. My disk activity shoots up to 100%, and the write speeds drop down to a crawl at about 1-2 MB/s. The average response time on the drive spikes massively, ranging from 4000ms to as much as 14000ms, which is frustrating.

Here's a bit about the drive I have:
- **Model:** Patriot P210 1TB (SATA SSD)
- **Bought:** Spring 2023
- **Total Host Writes:** ~450 TB (I checked this with CrystalDiskInfo)
- **Health Status:** 62% (Good)
- **DRAM-less:** Yes

The strange thing is, while I'm gaming, everything runs smoothly with no stutters or long load times since I got it. The problem only pops up during download-heavy operations in Steam or when installing other software. Initially, the latency is around 30ms, but after a minute, it "chokes," with response times shooting to 4-5 seconds, causing the Steam download speed to plummet.

I've tried a few things to mitigate it:
- Limited Steam's download speed to both 5 MB/s and even down to 1 MB/s.
- Disabled SysMain and Windows Search.
- Cleared the Steam download cache and switched regions.
- I still have about 220GB of free space left on the drive.

Given that I've written 450TB in less than two years, I'm concerned this is too much for this budget drive. Is the SLC cache likely exhausted or is the controller failing? Would it make sense to consider an RMA, or is this behavior typical for a worn-out P210? I also noticed that another SSD in my system, a Silicon Power model bought in 2021, has been holding up better with a health of 93% despite being used similarly.

I have the P220 2TB, and I'm experiencing similar issues. Honestly, these drives are just not that great. It sounds like you're dealing with a pretty typical problem for that model.

How much health is your SSD at? And how long have you been using it?

Without DRAM, SSDs like yours can slow down significantly during heavy write activities. They can drop performance to levels similar to an HDD. While they can read at decent speeds, the lack of DRAM really hampers write performance, so what you're seeing is pretty normal.

So you're saying this SSD is fine for gaming but struggles with installations? Also, I noticed mine gets up to 48°C constantly, while my SPCC only hits about 33-35°C. Is that a concern?
