Experiencing Frame Drops with My New RTX 5060 – Need Insights

I recently purchased a new Asus DUAL OC GeForce RTX 5060 with 8 GB of VRAM, and it was still sealed when I got it. Initially, everything seemed to work fine, but I'm facing significant FPS drops in demanding games down to around 10 FPS. I've tried various fixes, including reinstalling the GPU drivers using DDU and updating my BIOS, which helped reduce the problem, but it hasn't completely solved it.

My power supply should be adequate since my previous card, a 3060, drew more power than this new one. I've checked the compatibility using pcpartpicker, and I doubt it's a temperature issue because the GPU has never exceeded 61 degrees, and my CPU isn't being maxed out either. The only upgrade I've made recently is to the GPU.

Is there anything else I should investigate? Could the GPU itself possibly be defective? I usually game at 1080p, targeting 60fps, and the problematic titles include Cyberpunk, Oblivion Remastered, and Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

Have you checked how much VRAM you’re using while gaming? If it exceeds 7GB, the GPU might have to pull textures from system memory, which can cause lag and stuttering during gameplay. Also, it’s worth looking into whether your PCIe setup is limited to 8 lanes; that could be a factor, too.

It's also important to know where you have the games installed. Are they on an older hard drive, or are you using an SSD? Performance can dip if they’re on a slower drive. If you haven't already, try installing the games on different SSDs and see if that helps with the FPS drops.

To further troubleshoot, check if your BIOS settings are correct—specifically the PCIe configuration. It should ideally be set to the 4th gen or auto to ensure optimal performance. Sometimes an incorrect setting can lead to underwhelming performance from your GPU.

Thanks for the tip! What's the recommended setting for the PCIe? Should it definitely be on 4th gen?
