I bought an HP Z2 Gen9 in 2022, and I've noticed some alarming hardware failures—specifically, I've had four hard drives fail and one motherboard go out in just the last three weeks. Has anyone else run into similar issues with this model in such a short timeframe?

Could the environment be a factor here? I know some folks have issues, but others are using uninterrupted power supplies in offices. However, I work in a manufacturing setup, so I guess anything's possible.
Five failures out of ten systems is definitely concerning! But if you look at it from a larger perspective—like five failures out of 400—that's a different story. It's all about the context of the numbers here.
It sounds like you're not alone. In our organization, we run a bunch of Z2 G9 workstations, and hardware failures have been super common. HP seems to be aware of a significant issue with the motherboard design, but they haven't really addressed it. We've swapped out motherboards on over 100 systems because of repeated failures, and they haven't fixed the core problem despite numerous updates. We even pushed to have them proactively replace the motherboards in our fleet since downtime can have some serious consequences for us.
Do you think these machines are running hot? I changed out an SSD on one Z2 G9 and the thermal paste seemed really ineffective.

Well, in my case, it's more like five failures out of thirty, which feels pretty rough!
