I'm using an external monitor with my laptop, keeping the laptop screen off. I'm facing a significant lag issue when using DP alt mode connected to the discrete GPU (dGPU). Interestingly, this lag doesn't occur when I switch to Thunderbolt for my external display. Disabling hybrid graphics in the UEFI does fix the problem, but I can't just turn off the integrated GPU (iGPU) because I need it for battery life since I use this laptop for school.
My setup includes an RTX 4070 laptop with a Core Ultra 9 185h and I'm running CachyOS with KDE. I've made sure that all my drivers are up to date, and I even experienced the same issue while I was using Bazzite. I've checked wikis and forums for solutions but haven't found anything useful. I've also tried supergfxctl and envycontrol without any luck. I really want to solve this issue because it's the only reason I'm still stuck using Windows as my main OS.

I had similar issues, and I found that turning off Legacy USB support in the BIOS made a difference for me. I also disabled Secure Boot, which helped the Nvidia drivers load properly. It might be worth a shot for you to try turning off Legacy USB support and seeing if that helps your lag.
Try diving into your UEFI settings to turn off any compatibility and power-saving features. Then, once you boot into your OS, make sure to disable all power-saving settings there too. It seems like your laptop might be using the iGPU instead of the dGPU, which could be where the lag is coming from!
A friend suggested that I switch from KDE to GNOME, and it’s actually worked wonders for me. If you haven’t already, that might be another option to consider.
