Experiencing Slow Logon Times After July 2025 Windows 11 Update?

Hey everyone, has anyone noticed that the first logon time has significantly increased after the July 2025 update to Windows 11? We're in a school setting, and it used to take about 20 seconds to log in, but now it's taking around 1 minute and 20 seconds. I tried on a computer that hasn't been updated, and it still logs in quickly, so I'm pretty sure this is all related to the latest update. Could it be due to the new AI features that came with it?

Is it just the first user logging in for the first time, or is it affecting everyone every time? I have one lab PC with the update that isn't having this problem. You might want to check the event viewer to see if there's more information there.

It's just for the first logon by any user; subsequent logons are quick. I've been digging through logs for a while, but nothing stands out apart from the AppxDeployment process being slow. I even tried a clean reimage and it still has the same delays.

Just a tip—if it takes over 10 minutes to load, try pressing the power button to send it into sleep mode, wait a second, and then wake it again. This seems to allow it to load directly into Windows Explorer. Just sharing my experience, but take it with a grain of salt!

Quick update! I found a bunch of 5224 errors in the Event Log under AppxDeploymentServer that seem to be related to WindowsClient.CBS. It looks like it's trying to remove files and can't, leading to longer logon times. I even tested a preview update, and the same thing happened. Fingers crossed for a fix in the upcoming patch!

We've also run into this with our Active Directory setup. We're waiting for August updates to see if they address it. For some clients, we blocked the update, and for others, we reverted to a previous version, which has been running fine. One workaround is a Group Policy tweak that gets most things moving except the Start menu, which is a bit of a mystery because the search button works just fine. I even tried some registry adjustments and set a logon script to restart the Explorer for user accounts that jump around a lot. It's not perfect, but it helps reduce delays.

What CPUs are you using? We've noticed similar slowdowns with our newer Intel machines, but the older ones and AMD systems aren’t behaving like this at all.

Yes, we're seeing the same issue in our computer labs after installing the July 2025 update. First logons have shot up to around 90 seconds, although subsequent logons are back down to just a couple of seconds. It seems linked to how store apps are deployed since the desktop and Start menu load slowly, with icons appearing one by one. It's frustrating, but hopefully this gets resolved in the August updates since classes begin right after Labor Day.
