Facing an ‘Unexpected Error’ While Erasing My Mac

Hey everyone! I'm trying to erase my Mac because I've forgotten my password, but I'm running into some major issues. Every time I try to go through the Terminal, I can't find the right options. Instead, I keep landing on the activation lock screen. After I enter my Wi-Fi details, it asks for my Apple ID, but I keep getting this 'unexpected error occurred' message. Just to clarify, my Apple ID password is definitely correct. This whole situation is driving me up the wall!

It would help to know which Mac model you’re using and its age, but if you're just trying to erase it, check out the specific instructions for your model. For Macs with Apple silicon, you can follow the steps found here: [Erase a Mac with Apple silicon](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102506). If it’s an Intel-based Mac, try this guide: [Erase an Intel-based Mac](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102639). They're pretty straightforward and should help you out!

Thanks for the links, but he mentioned that those steps didn't work. The real issue seems to be with the Apple ID and the error message. It might be better to troubleshoot that directly.

Have you tried resetting your Apple ID password just in case? Sometimes, even if you think it's correct, there can be an issue on Apple's end. You can use the 'Forgot Apple ID or password?' option to reset it. That might help clear up the unexpected errors you're seeing.

If you're still stuck, you might want to contact Apple Support directly. They can help you sort out the activation lock issue and access your Mac. I know it's frustrating, but they have the tools to guide you step-by-step.
