Feeling a Tingle When Charging My iPhone 16—Is That Normal?

I recently bought a multi-port 65W Spigen charger, and I've noticed that when I charge my iPhone 16, I feel a slight vibration as if there's a current running through my pinky finger when I touch the edge by the camera button. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the Spigen charger or something with the iPhone itself. I would expect that even if there were a current leak from the charger, the iPhone's solid build should protect me, right?

Yeah, it sounds like an issue with the charger rather than the iPhone. The iPhone's frame is connected to the charger’s ground, and if the charger isn’t well-isolated, some AC can leak through. So, I recommend getting a better quality charger to avoid this situation. It's not worth the risk!

This effect is likely due to a switching power circuit, and it can happen when equipment isn’t properly grounded. It might feel weird, but it’s not uncommon. Still, I get why it feels unsettling.

What you're experiencing is actually not uncommon when using chargers that lack a ground prong. It’s known as 'voltage on enclosure.' I’ve never noticed it myself since I use rugged cases, but it's generally harmless as long as you don’t keep your pinky there for too long. Just be cautious; with cheap or counterfeit chargers, there’s a risk of the phone becoming live with mains voltage.

Apple's newer chargers use a sophisticated digital switch to change high outlet power to a lower DC voltage for charging. Sometimes that switch can let out a small, floating voltage if everything isn't perfectly calibrated. Apple claims it's normal and safe, but it’s always good to handle electronics carefully!

Honestly, just avoid putting your pinky there again! It’s like that old joke—if something hurts when you do it, just stop doing it. You definitely shouldn't keep using a charger that makes you feel that way with an expensive device.
