Feeling Lost About Getting an Internship, What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I'm 18 and have been coding for about three years. I started with Python and made some small projects, eventually completing CS50p, which gave me a solid foundation. I built an expense manager in Python that actually worked, which was an amazing feeling. I also learned the basics of Git and dabbled in machine learning but paused once the math got intense because I needed to focus on earning money. Now, I've switched to web development and made a basic shop site using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I built a web-based version of my expense manager using Firebase and dived into React, creating a Pomodoro timer and a portfolio website. With school ending and summer approaching, I want to land an internship, but I'm feeling lost. Should I learn more, apply cold, keep building projects, or focus on backend development? Any advice that helped you land your first job or internship would be great!

Networking is key! When I got laid off last year, I found a new job within weeks thanks to my connections. While your experience is a good start, it's not quite enough for a role yet. Focus on creating full-stack projects that you would actually use—think beyond basic tools like expense trackers. Dive into learning Docker and Linux, as they're really valuable in today's job market. Plus, become proficient in one programming language, while it’s great you're starting with Python, consider learning a backend language like Java or C#. Don't just rely on AI for coding; make sure you're truly understanding what you're building.

The job market for web developers is pretty tough right now. It seems saturated, and it might take a while before you find something, especially since they often want full-stack skills. I'd recommend looking for a different job while you keep learning and building skills instead of focusing solely on web development. Keep your options open!

Honestly, you might be jumping into internships a bit early since you haven't started college yet. Just a thought!
