Hey everyone, I'm a 24-year-old from Telangana, India, and I feel really stuck in life. I completed my intermediate with a solid 85.3% in subjects like Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. Due to my parents' pressure, I chose to pursue Electrical and Electronics Engineering in college, managing an 8 CGPA in my first semester. Unfortunately, during the lockdown, I struggled with online classes and my grades dropped to 7.5 CGPA.
Things took a tougher turn when my father fell seriously ill, and since he was the main breadwinner, our family faced financial hardships. I started working from home as a customer service agent earning 15K a month to support my family, and I've had to stop attending college. I now have 21 backlogs in my degree.
Recently, I reconnected with school friends and found out one is working as a Software Development Engineer with a great salary, which made me feel even worse about my situation. He suggested I learn coding and leave my current job, but I'm unsure if I can start learning now or if it's too late given my backlogs.
I've found a roadmap online about pursuing a career in software, which includes learning languages like C++, Java, or Python, along with Data Structures and Algorithms and working on projects. But I really need advice on whether this is the right path, especially considering my academic challenges. I just want guidance on how to restart my life and feel less like a failure. Any help would really mean a lot!

I get where you're coming from, and honestly, many people faced similar disruptions during the lockdown. It sounds like you’ve been juggling a lot with your family responsibilities. My advice would be to prioritize finishing those backlogs first. Completing your degree will open more doors for you than just diving into coding right away. Once you’ve cleared your modules, you can think about coding as a new career path. Right now, just focus on one step at a time—you got this!

Totally agree! Focusing on your degree first is key. Once you’ve tackled those backlogs, you’ll feel more confident moving forward.
