Feeling Lost in My Career Path: Should I Stick with AI or Go Back to Web Development?

I've been trying to find my way in tech and it's been a rollercoaster. I started with a goal of becoming a full stack web developer, learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Then I switched gears to dive into MERN after learning MongoDB. But I got discouraged when I heard there might not be much future in web development due to AI, so I shifted to learning Java. After getting a handle on Java, I discovered job opportunities for AI engineers on LinkedIn and started learning Python, as well as libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib. Now I'm getting close to starting Machine Learning, but I'm losing confidence again because I found out that you'll need strong math skills for AI jobs. Plus, I just learned a friend got a job as a MERN developer with a salary that sounds great. With all this switching around, I feel like I'm just running in circles and not making real progress in any area. I'm looking for help and advice on what my next step should be. I really just want to land a job soon!

Ignore those negative voices about web development. There's a ton of scope! The key is to focus on one technology stack and really solidify your skills. Don’t think of switching back and forth as mistakes, but as learning experiences. You've got this!

But what should I do now? Stick with learning AI or go back to Spring Boot or MERN?

My advice? Just pick one path and commit to it. If you're interested in Machine Learning, be prepared for a tougher journey since a degree is often required and math is a big part of it. But on the other hand, web dev is still very much alive and there are plenty of job opportunities out there, especially with MERN stack developers.

I'm in my last year of IT engineering. Are you working in ML now?
