Feeling Lost in My DevOps Career—Need Azure Advice!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind and could really use your insights. I graduated two years ago and began my career as a DevOps trainee at a reputable company, where I mainly worked with Temenos Transact (T24). My role was centered on deployment and integration, mostly setting up infrastructure. However, I didn't see much room for growth, and after two years of mostly handling integrations, deployments, and monitoring, I decided to leave the company. Now I've been jobless for a month.

The challenge I'm facing is that every interview I've had so far has highlighted that while I have strong DevOps skills, I lack experience with cloud technologies, especially Azure, which seems to be what many companies are looking for. I've got some familiarity with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Terraform, and Ansible, but not much with the cloud itself. I've already gone through five interviews, and they all gave me the same feedback.

So, I'm wondering where I should start with Azure DevOps. What kind of projects should I tackle to demonstrate my skills? What key points or concepts should I focus on? I'm feeling a bit anxious about the trajectory of my career right now.

If you're new to Azure, I recommend starting with the AZ-104 training. It'll give you a solid foundation across the various Azure components. Once you’re comfortable with that, diving into the AZ-400 course will really help you understand Azure DevOps specifically. It's likely you'll find a lot of the concepts familiar, given your background, so it shouldn't be too overwhelming.

If you're already familiar with those concepts, you could start with AZ-400 to get more into the DevOps specifics. But don't skip over any foundational areas that might still be new to you!

Got it! But what if I already know cloud concepts like VMs, VPC, and databases? Should I still begin with the basics or jump into AZ-400?

I suggest you also consider taking the AZ-300 along with the AZ-400. The AZ-300 focuses on Azure architecture and can give you further insights that enhance your DevOps knowledge. It might help connect your existing skills to cloud solutions in a practical way.
