Hey everyone! I've been in the coding game for about 9 years, but I've primarily relied on AI for the past 2 years to do much of the coding for me. Now, when I try to write code on my own, I find myself stuck and hesitating a lot. It honestly feels like I've lost my touch. Has anyone else been through something similar? What steps did you take to get back into the flow and regain your confidence? Thanks!

You could even explore a totally new programming language! It might reignite your passion for coding.
This seems like a troll post! You know the answer is to get back to coding without AI, right?
It's totally normal for skills to fade if you haven't been actively using them. Think of it like going to the gym and just watching instead of lifting weights. To get back on track, you might need to challenge yourself by tackling projects without any AI assistance for a while.
Yeah, like just relearning the basics after 9 years seems easy, right? It's a struggle!
Have you just tried stopping the reliance on AI altogether? It might be tough, but it could help you regain your coding edge.
I tried that, but I got so stuck that I felt like I’d forgotten everything! It's not as easy as it sounds.
Exactly! Just telling someone to stop using AI is easier said than done, especially when it's such a helpful tool. We just need to find a way to use it without losing our skills.
I get where you’re coming from. I've been coding for over 40 years and I’m not surprised that newer coders struggle with this. Some graduates might not write good code anymore since AI is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
I did my CS degree without AI, but now that I'm freelancing, I rely on it heavily. It makes me feel unworthy, like using it is cheating!
Exactly! Even though I can debug, starting from scratch feels impossible now.
What works for me is using tools like Github Copilot sparingly. I turn it off often to force myself to think critically and solve problems on my own. Sometimes I ask AI for hints instead of full solutions, which helps keep my brain active! ✨
Just think about it this way: If it hurts to rely on AI, stop doing that! It reminds me of the joke: 'Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Then don’t do that.'
This is definitely a tricky situation. I've found myself generating components with AI instead of writing them by hand, which saves time but makes me wonder if I’m losing my touch. AI is here to stay, so knowing when to rely on it versus doing the work manually is part of the skill now.
Absolutely! But now it feels like I can’t even start a project without AI. I can debug, but starting from scratch makes me feel like a complete beginner.
I don't think it's that simple. You can definitely mix using AI and coding yourself. Why not let AI help with certain tasks while you handle others? Balance is key!
