Feeling Stuck as a Developer After 6 Months – What’s Next?

I've been working as a software developer for about six months now, but it's been really tough for me. Before this, I spent several years in support and project management in software, and I even went back to school to make this career switch. Unfortunately, I'm not enjoying my time as a developer. I feel like I made a big mistake choosing this path, and now I'm at a loss for what to do next. I hear about different roles in tech, but I'm just drawing a blank on what might suit me better. Any ideas on roles that might fit someone who isn't very creative, but doesn't mind doing hard work?

You might want to consider becoming a technical project manager. The pay is generally better and it’s similar to what you did before, just with a more technical twist. It could be a good way to leverage your past experience!

Have you thought about going into software sales? It's a different direction but could be more aligned with your skills and interests.

Have you thought about Dev Ops? I know someone who felt the same way as you when they started as a developer but later switched to Dev Ops within the same company. It could be a good fit for you!

Sounds like you're in a rut! Maybe you could start creating a course on how to learn programming or even launch a programming podcast. It could give you a new perspective and reignite your passion.

Consider that it might not just be the developer role that you dislike; it could be the specific team or company. You might find that you actually enjoy development in a different environment. Don't hesitate to explore other opportunities!
