Finding Linux Alternatives for My Favorite Apps

I've been tinkering with various Linux distros since 1994, starting with Red Hat. Each time I've tried to fully transition from Windows, I've faced some challenges, especially with drivers in the past. I love many newer versions of Linux but I'm currently stuck on finding Linux equivalents for three crucial applications before I can make the switch entirely.

1. I use Manycam to create virtual backgrounds while teaching. OBS is a bit too complicated for what I need. What Linux software can help me achieve custom virtual backgrounds for video calls?

2. Google Drive works seamlessly on Windows, but the integration on Linux Mint feels clunky. I want an efficient way to handle Google Drive offline without the hassles of random file names. Any recommendations?

3. Lastly, I'm curious if Microsoft Flight Simulator through Game Pass runs on Wine, although this isn't a dealbreaker for me.

For Google Drive, there’s a Chrome app you can use that works well with Google Drive for better offline performance. If you're looking for a more robust solution, try Insync; it’s a paid app that syncs files smoothly. It may cost a bit, but it could save you some headaches!

Ubuntu's default setup should be okay for Google Drive too.

For the virtual background, you might want to check out applications like Zoom or Jitsi Meet. They can both provide virtual backgrounds without the hassle of OBS. Manycam may also work in a Windows VM if you want to go that route!

Thanks, this is encouraging!

While MSFS can run under Linux, I doubt the Game Pass version will work due to it using UWP.

As for Microsoft Flight Simulator, I've seen reports of it working under Wine, but it’s not guaranteed for the Game Pass version. Might be worth checking out dedicated Linux gaming sites for more specific advice!
