Getting Started with Programming and ADHD: Tips Needed

I'm interested in diving into programming because I have some exciting project ideas that could take me about a year to complete solo. However, I'm suspecting I might have ADHD and I'm currently working on getting a diagnosis through my high school. My biggest struggle is getting started and staying motivated to learn. While I don't find the programming syntax difficult, I often feel the urge to take shortcuts. I sometimes think about using AI tools to assist me, but I worry that I won't learn how to debug or think critically if I rely too much on them. I'd love to hear some advice on effective projects that can enhance my learning and strategies to resist the temptation of taking shortcuts or expecting perfection right away.

You might want to consider working on compilers. They are not only practical but also help you develop a variety of skills. The process of creating a compiler is divided into different parts, like the front end and the back end, which makes it manageable. You can tackle smaller components like lexers and parsers as separate mini-projects. This way, it feels less overwhelming and you can see progress without wasting time going back and forth. Just take it one piece at a time!

I'll definitely explore compilers; they sound really interesting! Thanks for the suggestion!
