Hey everyone! I'm exploring options for our observability pipeline since we're currently using Dynatrace, which is quite pricey. We're a small team, so we're hoping to find an open-source solution that isn't overly complex. I've come across OpenObserve and find it interesting, but I'd love to hear your feedback and experiences with it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your team is technically skilled, you might want to consider other options like the LGTM stack. I haven’t seen much compelling info about OpenObserve, and some of the claims seem a bit vague. It's worth testing everything yourself to get a feel for it.
We're in a similar boat, so here's another option: check out Parseable. It's open-source and combines logs, traces, and events in one platform with a clean UI and SQL for queries. It also runs on S3-compatible storage, which is great for scaling without the stress of high costs! Just wanted to share this alternative.
I've been running OpenObserve at a decent scale and find it easier to scale compared to the Grafana stack. Their documentation for scaling is solid, plus it's significantly cheaper for searching through logs. The team's responsiveness on Slack is a big plus too! That said, I find the UI a bit challenging to navigate at first, even though they’re working on improving it. You can always use Grafana for a better frontend experience, but I haven’t explored that fully yet.
I've tested OpenObserve locally for some open observability projects. It's pretty user-friendly and intuitive, but the UI could use some improvement based on my limited tests.
Thanks for sharing your experience! The VRL pipeline feature seems to be popular among users. I’ve heard they’re planning a UI refresh, so hopefully, that addresses some of the concerns.
