Has Anyone Else Had Trouble Getting a Refund from Apple for Apps?

Hey folks,

I'm really frustrated and curious if anyone else has faced a similar situation. I bought an app called Loomi AI from the App Store for £14.99, which was supposed to help generate video content using AI. Unfortunately, it didn't work at all. I tried to get a refund through Apple's official site and explained what happened, but they denied my request. I appealed, but they stood firm and said the decision was final.

According to the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in the UK, if a digital product is faulty, I have a legal right to a refund. It seems like Apple is just ignoring this law. I've filed a chargeback with my bank and also plan to discuss this on my podcast, Yorkie Unfiltered, since I bet there are many others like me who aren't being told about their rights.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Apple or other app stores? Did you manage to win a chargeback? Also, is there any consumer body that holds Apple accountable for situations like this? I'd really appreciate your advice and any insight you can share. Cheers!

It sounds like you might not be the first one in this boat. Apple has their terms of service that you agree to, so it’s possible they’re just sticking to their contract. But you’re right about the Consumer Rights Act 2015—it’s pretty clear. If your app is faulty, you should be entitled to a refund. Just keep in mind that a chargeback might lead to Apple suspending your account.

If you want to pursue this, you can adapt a standard form for the Consumer Rights Act and send it off. If they ignore you, consider taking it to the Small Claims Court. It’s usually not too expensive, and you can get your money back if you win.

Be careful with that chargeback! I’ve heard Apple tends to lock accounts when someone does that, which means you could lose access to all your apps and iCloud data.
