Hey everyone! I'm currently a contractor at Google in a DevOps role, and it's been my dream to become a full-time employee (FTE) here. I'd love to hear from anyone who has successfully made that switch. Specifically, I'm curious about the following:
- What did your journey look like?
- Did you get converted internally or did you go through the regular FTE application process?
- Any tips on how to stand out as a contractor?
- How did you prepare for the FTE interviews, both technically and otherwise?
- Are there any pitfalls or gotchas to watch out for?
I really appreciate any insights or personal stories you can share as I'm planning my next steps! Thanks so much!

I agree! Having an inside connection can really help you navigate the process. My experience was more about internal conversations to understand what the FTE path looks like. If you show your value and have a clear communication strategy with the managers, it can significantly boost your chances.

Thanks for the tips! It sounds like building those relationships is key. I’ll definitely reach out to my manager.

I haven’t transitioned from contractor to FTE at Google specifically, but I went through that process at Amazon. If you have connections with an Engineering Manager or someone in your team, that's a great starting point. They might help you lay out a plan and even assign you a mentor who can guide you through the process. It's all about knowing someone who can support your transition! Best of luck!
