Has ProtonVPN Messed Up My Computer Settings?

I've been using ExpressVPN, but over the summer, I had some issues with it, so I looked into free VPN options and came across ProtonVPN. By the time I downloaded it, I managed to fix my ExpressVPN, so I didn't need ProtonVPN. However, it started turning on in the background without my permission, and that interfered with my ExpressVPN connection, messing up my Wi-Fi. After a few frustrating attempts, I deleted ProtonVPN, which took ages due to all the associated files. Now, weeks later, every time I turn on ExpressVPN, my Wi-Fi goes haywire, and my computer insists I'm in the Netherlands, which is the server location for ProtonVPN! Since I thought I deleted it completely, I redownloaded it to see if that would resolve the issues, but my computer says I can't start it because a newer version is already installed. I'm confused and worried that my computer is messed up for good. What can I do?

It sounds like ProtonVPN might have left some remnants behind even after you deleted it. I recommend using Revo Uninstaller or a similar program to make sure every trace of ProtonVPN is completely removed from your system. That should help clear up any conflicts with ExpressVPN. Just be careful with the settings so you don’t accidentally mess with files you’re unsure about!

This! I've had issues before where an app kept hanging around even after I thought I uninstalled it.

Did you uninstall ProtonVPN properly? If you just deleted files, there might be leftover settings that are causing issues with your network. Check your startup applications; it sounds like ProtonVPN might still be set to launch at startup. It may help to look at your system settings and clean things up a bit.
