Having Issues with Steam on Ubuntu – Any Fixes?

Hey everyone! I recently switched to Ubuntu (latest update) because my PC was running really slow. I had no trouble downloading Discord through the app store, but I'm running into major issues with Steam. It downloads fine and starts up, but once I'm connected, there's no graphical interface. I can't access my library or the store, even though the app shows it's running—only option is to quit. Has anyone faced this issue? How can I fix it?

Honestly, Ubuntu isn't the best for gaming. Have you checked out something like Nobara? If you're looking for an Ubuntu-based option, Pop OS is highly recommended for gaming. Just something to consider if you're really into gaming on Linux!

First, check which version of Steam you installed—did you go for the SNAP version or the .deb version? Sometimes, the app store doesn't make it clear which one you're getting. The SNAP version has had its share of issues in the past, so you might want to try the .deb version. Also, try launching Steam from the terminal; it might give you error messages that could help debug the problem.

I looked into it and it seems like I actually didn't install either. In my 'snap' directory, I've got Discord and a couple of other apps, but no Steam. It's showing up in the app list though. I plan to uninstall it from the app store. Any tips on getting the .deb for Steam?

You might want to take a look at the official .deb file from the Steam repository. Just go to repo.steampowered.com/steam/ to grab it. You can use `gdebi` or `apt` to install it. It could help resolve your issues—let us know if it works!
