Hey everyone, I could really use your assistance! I'm currently interning at a company, and they've asked me to set up a Mac Studio as a server for testing software and syncing with another server located in a different city. However, I'm having issues connecting it to the network via Ethernet. Initially, I was getting a 'Self-Assigned IP', and the subnet mask is incorrectly set to 255.255.0.0. I tried using a used RJ45 cable, thinking it might be the issue. After that, I manually configured the IP address and got a connection, but still no internet access—only the ability to reach the router's configuration page.
I consulted with the other team member responsible for the remote server, and everything seems to match their configuration. To troubleshoot further, I've been using Wi-Fi while waiting for a new RJ45 cable, which I've since connected, but nothing has changed. I'm feeling a bit stuck and frustrated because I want to prove I can handle this task.
So far, I've tried renewing the DHCP lease, deleting network files and restarting, and ensuring my firewall is disabled. However, I can't reset the router since it services a team of ten at the office. When I activate both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, I lose internet access, so I suspect there might be a configuration conflict. Any ideas on what I could be missing?

Have you tried pinging an external server like 8.8.8.8 when you have the IP manually set? If you can ping that but not access the web, it might be a DNS issue. If you're still getting that strange subnet, try connecting directly to different ports on the router or a switch. Sometimes switching ports can help resolve these issues. And keep in mind, it's fine to ask for help from your IT team for insights on VLANs or DHCP settings since you mentioned it might be a company policy issue!
It sounds like you're having a classic networking issue. From what you've described, it could be that your Mac isn't getting a proper DHCP lease. Since you're seeing a self-assigned IP, it's likely that either your machine isn't communicating with the DHCP server, or there's a VLAN issue. Make sure you're connecting to the correct port on the switch and check with your IT department to confirm if there's any network access control (NAC) blocking your device based on its MAC address. You could also try temporarily connecting a different device to see if it obtains an IP address automatically.
