Having trouble with my new PC build—turns off after 30 seconds!

I'm reaching out for help with my new PC build because I'm running into some frustrating issues. I've recently upgraded several components, and here's what I'm working with: an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU, RX 9060 XT graphics card, Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus Wifi motherboard, Hyper 212 Black fan, 32 GB Silicon Power DDR5 RAM (2x16), a Rosewill case, and an EV3A 850GQ power supply.

After putting it all together, I tried turning it on but it only stays on for about 30 seconds before shutting itself off. There's no display on my monitor during that time. However, I discovered that if I disconnect the CPU power from the motherboard, the PC will remain on. Since the CPU is brand new, I made sure to apply thermal paste, install the heatsink, and connect the fan properly. I also tried reseating the CPU and double-checked that the power supply cables are securely connected. The RAM seems fine too, as I've tested each stick individually in different slots.

Aside from replacing the motherboard or CPU, what other troubleshooting steps do you recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you considered updating the BIOS? If your motherboard has an outdated BIOS, it might not support the Ryzen 9000 series. Check if you can access the BIOS, or if it’s possible to do it directly from a USB stick without anything showing on the display.

Good question! Normally, updating the BIOS requires visual feedback, but some boards allow a bootable USB procedure that could work without a display. It’s worth checking the motherboard manual for specific instructions!

Can I still update the BIOS if I can't see anything on my monitor?

Sounds like a power supply or motherboard issue! Make sure the PSU is providing enough power and all connections, especially the CPU power connector, are solid. Sometimes reseating everything can help too. You might need to swap out components if you can borrow them from another PC for testing!

Thanks! I’ve double-checked everything, but I really haven't tested the PSU with another system. I’ll see if I can do that.
