Help! BSOD After BIOS Update on Asus ROG Strix Z790-F

I recently updated the BIOS on my Asus ROG Strix Z790-F Gaming WiFi II motherboard to version 2001. The update seemed to be successful, as I could see the new version when I entered the BIOS. However, after exiting the BIOS, my computer wouldn't load Windows and displayed a blue screen of death (BSOD) instead. The PC keeps restarting, showing the BIOS screen, and then lands back on the BSOD before I can access Windows.

I've attempted to roll back to an earlier BIOS version using the BIOS Flashback feature, and while I could see the older version in the BIOS afterward, the BSOD issue continues.

Now, even though I'm not getting the BSOD anymore, I'm faced with a black screen after the BIOS screen. I managed to boot into Safe Mode after several forced shutdowns, but I received an error regarding ctfmon.exe that mentioned a potential buffer overflow vulnerability. I'm at a loss for what to do next and could really use some assistance! By the way, I'm running Windows 11, if that helps.

To diagnose the BSOD issue, it would really help to get the dump files from your system. If you can boot into Safe Mode, check for crash logs in C:WindowsMinidump. If there are some dump files, zip them up and upload them to a file-sharing site. Analyzing these files will give a clearer picture of what's causing the BSOD. If you're not familiar with how to set it up, I can guide you through it!

First off, it sounds like your BIOS settings might have reset to their defaults after the update, which can happen sometimes. Check if the settings, especially those for any overclocking or hardware configurations, have reverted back. Usually, you'll need to go in and reconfigure things like boot order, XMP profiles for RAM, and any other specific settings for your hardware. If you're not sure what to look for, you might want to check the manual for your motherboard for guidance on optimal settings. Good luck!

You mentioned seeing several error codes like SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER. Those can indicate driver issues or system service problems. After updating the BIOS, ensure all your drivers are up to date. But to fix the error codes, you might want to focus on checking your drivers related to 'cl.dll' or 'win32kbase.sys', as those could be directly causing the BSODs.
