I'm planning to build a new gaming PC before prices go even higher, but I'm not super experienced. I've built a PC before by copying a previous build that fit my budget (GTX 1660ti and Ryzen 5 2600), but this time I want to do more research. My focus is mainly on gaming with titles like Cyberpunk, Souls-like games, Final Fantasy, and E3 projects, and I'd like to future-proof it a bit. My budget is around $2000 CAD.
I've settled on the Radeon 9060XT and Ryzen 9600X combo but need advice on the rest of my components. I'm not sure about the motherboard, power supply unit, or storage options. Here's what I picked:
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5
- Power Supply: Corsair CX (2023) 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX
- Storage: Kingston NV3 1TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVME SSD
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Assassin X SE 32.77 CFM
For RAM, I'm considering going for 32GB DDR5 to allow for future upgrades. Is that a good idea, or should I stick with 32GB DDR4 to save some money? Any recommendations or changes I should make? I'd really appreciate your advice!

Firstly, I’d recommend swapping out the CPU cooler. The Assassin X SE isn’t suitable for the 9600X, as it’s designed for lower power CPUs. Look for something like the Thermalright Assassin X 120 SE – it will keep your CPU cool without the noise issues.
For your motherboard, if you want to save a bit, consider alternatives like the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX or MSI B650 Gaming Plus; they’re good options that will save you some cash. The B850 Tomahawk is solid, though.
For your case, I suggest something like the Phanteks XT Pro but grab a couple more fans to help with airflow. If you want more fan options, check the Montech Air 903 Base or be quiet! Pure Base 501; they come with decent fan setups.
Regarding storage, I'd steer you away from the Kingston NV3 SSD; other brands like the WD SN5000 are more reliable and faster.
Lastly, remember that with the Ryzen 9600X, you'll need DDR5 RAM, not DDR4, so go for 32GB if you can. It’s worth it! Prices are a bit high, but it’s a long-term investment.
Sticking to DDR5 with that combo will give you better performance in the long run, but I get the temptation to grab a stronger GPU. Just be aware that going DDR4 means you might be limiting yourself for future upgrades.

Thanks for the detailed advice! Looks like I really need to rethink a few components. What do you think about downgrading to an AM4 setup with DDR4 to boost the GPU power a bit instead of the 9060XT? Is it worth it, or should I stick with my original plan?
