Help! I Broke My GPU Latch While Upgrading

Hey everyone! I'm trying to upgrade my GPU from a 3050 to a 5060, but while I was trying to release the latch, I accidentally applied too much pressure and snapped it off completely. Now, I can't seem to get the 3050 out of the PCIe slot. Is there any way to fix this, or am I totally out of luck? This is my first time building a PC, and I just wrapped up my build about a month ago. The 3050 was leftover from a prebuilt I got in 2023, and I'm using a B760 Plus WiFi motherboard. I'd appreciate any help!

Sounds like a bummer! The good news is that the latch is mainly there to keep the GPU secure, so as long as your card is still working, you can just leave it as is. You could use a GPU support bracket or even something as simple as a piece of foam to support the end of the GPU. Just make sure everything is secured in place so it doesn't wiggle. If you really wanted to get fancy, you could swap latches with another PCIe slot on the board if you have one you’re not using—but that might be overkill!

Yeah, I didn’t even get to swapping in the 5060 since the 3050 is still stuck! I’ll probably try the support bracket idea first and see if that helps.

I totally feel you! If the latch is just broken and the card is stuck, don't stress too much. It's mostly meant to hold the card in place. One suggestion is to be gentle but firm and see if you can tilt or wiggle the card a bit—it might just pop out. Otherwise, try getting some grip underneath it to carefully pull it out. You might also check if there's any debris causing it to stick.

Thanks for that tip! I’ll give it a gentle wiggle and see if it comes loose without damaging anything further.
