Help! I Can’t Access My Documents After Recent Changes

I'm having a serious issue with my computer. Everything was running smoothly just a few days ago, but now when I try to access my Documents folder, I get an error saying that the path 'C:Users(myname)OneDrivePicturesDocuments' is unavailable. It suggests checking if the device or drive is connected. I'm using Windows 11 Pro (version 24H2, OS build 26100.6584) on an Intel Core i7-8550U with 16GB of RAM. I've already restarted my PC, but it hasn't helped. I also logged into my OneDrive from a different PC, and my documents weren't there either. Both my Recycle Bins (on my PC and OneDrive) are empty. I've seen a brief message about deleting files from OneDrive when booting up. With my OneDrive plan of 2TB, which is only 40% full, I'm really confused. Any advice would be appreciated!

You might want to try restoring your OneDrive through the settings. Sometimes that can help recover lost files. If that doesn’t work, reaching out to Microsoft support might be your best bet. They've helped others with issues like this.

Thanks for the tip! I noticed that my Microsoft account still reflects 800GB of storage used, which was the same as before, so it seems like my files might still be there, just inaccessible.

That's a good sign! Also, have you tried searching for your folders in the search bar? Sometimes they're still there but don't appear in the usual places.

Just checking, how recent is your backup of these important files? If your backup is up-to-date, you might have a fallback option to recover what you lost.

I back up my files on external hard drives regularly, and the latest complete backup was in late June 2025. I haven’t added much since then, mostly just scanned documents that I still have saved. Plus, I keep a backup at a friend's house in case of emergencies.
