Help! I Signed Into the Wrong Apple ID and Got Stuck on Activation Lock

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind and could really use your help. I accidentally signed out of my Apple ID and logged into a different one. Now my iPhone X is stuck on the Activation Lock screen, and I've received an extortion demand in Russian for 15,000 KZT to 'unlock' it. I'm not paying, but I'm looking for some practical advice.

Here's the scoop:
• My device is an iPhone X, and it was a gift, so I don't have the original sales receipt, but I do have the original box with the serial and IMEI numbers.
• Has anyone managed to get Apple to remove Activation Lock with just the box?
• What evidence or conversation was successful for you when talking to Apple Support?
• Is it a good idea to file an extortion report now, and what should I include?
• Any tips for effectively reaching out to Apple Support? Screenshots of the messages and the activation screen are saved. I really appreciate any advice you can offer!

I’m not sure how you accidentally signed into another Apple ID, but it sounds like a pain! If the phone was marked lost, then unfortunately, Apple is pretty strict about the Activation Lock. As far as I know, they typically won't remove it without the original receipt, even if you have the box.
You might want to file that police report. It could help if anything fraudulent pops up in your accounts later on. Just make sure you include the message you got and any details around the situation. Good luck!

True, it’s definitely a tough lesson here. If you didn’t consciously make the switch, it could be a scam at play. Sad to hear it happened to you.

You should definitely contact Apple Support, but I’d suggest going in person if you can. Bring the box, any proof you can muster, and tell them your story clearly. Who knows, you might just get lucky! But remember: be firm about not paying the ransom. That's not the way to go.

Honestly, it’s a little tricky to sign out of one Apple ID and into another without realizing it. Typically, you need to enter that password and everything, so it might’ve been a mistake. Unfortunately, if the phone is marked as lost, it complicates things, and Apple’s support might just tell you the same. Definitely file a police report for protection against any future fraud.
