Help! I Think I Broke My Laptop After Dropping a Screw

I really need some help. I think I messed up my laptop after dropping a tiny screw on the motherboard. I heard a strange noise coming from the fans, so I decided to open up my Nitro 5 to check it out. When I was putting everything back together, that little screw slipped and landed on something, which made a noise and I saw a flash of orange. The screw I picked up was hot, and it looks like the component it landed on might be melted. I figured it might not be a big deal, but now my laptop won't turn on at all—no sounds, no keyboard lights, nothing. I turned it off immediately and let it cool since it was hot. I'm really worried that it might be damaged beyond repair, and I don't have the money to fix it if it is. Can anyone give me advice on what might be wrong and how I can get it repaired? I can share pictures if needed, just let me know! I was having a great week before this happened, so I'm pretty bummed out about it.

It sounds like you might have fried a component on your motherboard when you dropped that screw. The orange flash and hot screw signal something likely short-circuited. If the laptop wasn’t powered on when it happened, it's tough to say for sure what's damaged. You might need to take it to a repair shop; they can diagnose it for you and let you know if it's fixable without breaking the bank. Make sure to hold on to any images of the damage you have—those could help experts give you better advice!

Yeah, I agree that it’s best to get a professional's opinion. Sometimes they can work magic and fix things for less than you expect. Good luck!

Dropping screws can be surprisingly disastrous! Usually, if it shorted something, you might need a motherboard replacement, which can get pricey. But if it’s just a burnt part, it may not be as bad. Definitely seek a repair shop, and ask them to check the power supply too just in case. There might be hope!

I'd recommend checking if your warranty covers this sort of damage. Some policies might surprise you. Good thinking!
