Help Identifying an Unknown Device on My Network

Hey everyone! I noticed an unrecognized device on my Verizon G3100 router's connected list. It shows up as 'unknown' and is classified as a laptop/computer. The MAC address begins with d0:c9:07, and from my research, it seems to be classified as 'private.' The signal strength is -36 dBm, suggesting it's quite close to the router, but I can't actually see anything that could be a device, especially not a laptop or a computer. Plus, it responds when I ping the IP address, meaning it's active. Does anyone have insights on what this device could be or how I might find it? I'd really appreciate any tips!

Have you tried entering the IP into a web browser? Sometimes you can access the device's management settings that way.

Tried that, and it didn’t work. Nope, no luck! 🙁

It's common for devices to generate random hardware addresses for privacy. Unfortunately, that can make it harder for those of us who manage the network to identify them.

It sounds like a possibility that it's a PC or a laptop connected to your Wi-Fi. If you're not sure what it is, you might want to block the MAC address on your router and see if anyone suddenly realizes they can't get online! That could help narrow it down.

You could try turning off your devices one by one to see if this unknown device disappears from the network. Sometimes new gadgets connect without you realizing it, especially smart home devices.

Do you have a computer of your own? Sometimes, devices might mistakenly get classified, especially if you have multiple ones around.

I do! But it’s a different one. I can spot my laptop, phone, and tablet, but this one just doesn’t fit!
