Help! I’m Getting BSODs After Reinstalling Windows – What Should I Do?

I've recently reinstalled Windows on my laptop due to experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, specifically a 'video memory management internal' issue. I've tried updating my graphics drivers, but the only way I can keep my laptop running normally is in safe mode. The BSOD issue was present before the reinstall, so I hoped that wiping everything would fix it. I've done scans for system files and memory, and both came back clear. I've also run various diagnostics that suggest everything should be fine, but clearly, something is still wrong. I need some guidance on what to do next.

As a side note, I was only able to reinstall Windows from the laptop itself, so I'm worried it might be a faulty install since this laptop was refurbished years ago.

Edit: I made a mistake! I did a fresh installation from a USB, and now it's working perfectly, without any BSODs. So, for anyone facing this, definitely try a USB install before doing a reset!

It sounds like you ran into some funky BSOD issues there! The advice about checking for dump files is spot on. If you can get back into Windows, look in the Minidump folder for those crash logs. They can provide detailed insights into what’s causing the BSOD. If you’ve got any files in there, zip them up and upload them to a file sharing site for more help. But honestly, if you went through a reset instead of a clean USB install, that could explain a lot of the issues you faced initially. Glad to hear everything's running smoothly now after the USB install!

Just a heads up, it’s important to avoid jumping to hardware replacement recommendations right off the bat. In this case, your issues seem software-related, so advising a new motherboard might have been premature. It’s great you’ve resolved it with a clean installation – many people overlook that step!

I feel you! Reinstalling Windows can be a gamble sometimes, especially if the previous version was corrupted. I ran into similar BSOD problems in the past, and I found that a clean install from a USB can often work wonders. Your old Windows installation could’ve been holding onto issues that a simple reset wouldn't clear. Glad you figured it out and are back in business!
