Help Me Decide: 9070 XT vs 5080 for Gaming and Future Rendering

I find myself in a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice! I came across a 9070 XT for £500 and a 5080 for £900. While at first glance, the 9070 XT seems like the obvious choice, I'm planning to pair it with a 9800 X3D CPU. Is it worth shelling out the extra cash for the 5080 considering that my current focus is gaming at high resolutions, but I also want to do rendering work down the line?

Honestly, the performance increase with the 5080 is just not worth the extra cash—around 20% more for almost double the price? If you don’t need Nvidia for any professional work, I’d stick with the 9070 XT.

Totally agree! You could save that extra money for a future upgrade instead.

If you can afford it and are using a top-tier CPU like the 9800 X3D, I’d say go for the 5080. The 9070 XT is solid, but it might be a bit mismatched in terms of performance.

Honestly, I think the 9800 X3D is a mid-tier chip. If you’re not doing anything professional, the 9070 XT is a better deal.

Mismatched? How do you mean?

I feel you on the uncertainty. But think about what games you're playing and what you plan to do with it. The 5080 seems like bad value while the 9070 XT offers much better bang for your buck. Plus, if you're gaming, investing in other parts of your setup might also be wise instead of dropping a load on a single card.

That’s a good point! Maybe I should reconsider what I really need for gaming.

When you really break it down, the 9070 XT for £500 seems like the logical choice. The performance increase of the 5080 isn’t enough to justify an 80% higher price. Definitely, go with the 9070 XT.

At that price difference, think about whether you'd rather get the 5080 now or spend that on a different upgrade, like a new monitor or even save for the future. Sometimes those 'big badass parts' aren't always worth it right away.

But isn't this a new build? How can I keep pushing off upgrades?
