Help Me Switch from Windows 11 to Linux Mint!

Hey everyone! I'm new to all of this and really want to switch my Lenovo Ideapad from Windows 11 to Linux Mint. I've created a bootable USB using Rufus and got into the boot menu, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to commit to Linux right away. My computer prompted me to restart and disable BitLocker, which I attempted to do. But when I tried to boot from the USB again, I encountered a frustrating 'something has gone seriously wrong' error. It seems like Microsoft has tried to make it hard for folks to dual boot or switch to Linux. I've reset my PC twice and even made a new bootable USB for Mint, but the error keeps popping up. I have disabled secure boot in the boot menu as well. I'm really looking for help to get Mint installed or advice on completely wiping my hard drive so I can start fresh with Linux and leave Microsoft behind!

Your title really cracked me up! I can just imagine Bill Gates in a funny costume. But on a serious note, make sure you check out the installation instructions on the Linux Mint website; they have a clear guide that can help you through the process!

It sounds like you’re on the right track trying to get that USB to boot. If you can, please share the specific error message that you're getting. The more details you provide, the better chance someone will be able to help you troubleshoot the situation!

I recommend trying a Live USB version of Linux Mint so you can explore without having to install it right away. It’s a great way to 'test drive' the system while keeping your Windows installation intact, just in case. You can find Linux Mint as well as other distributions online easily. If you're unsure about your current setup, doing a Live USB first might save you some hassle. Don't worry, the community's here to help!

Totally agree! Ventoy is a great tool for making Live USBs, and it's really easy to use.
