I recently purchased a 7900XTX graphics card at a great price, expecting my be quiet straight power 11 850W platinum PSU to handle it just fine. All the specs I've seen for the ASRock Phantom Gaming OC 7900XTX recommend an 850W PSU. However, under heavy load, especially in VR for prolonged sessions, my entire PC keeps shutting down. It's frustrating because I have to manually switch the PSU off and back on to reboot. My current PSU has two rails, and I'm distributing the three 8-pin PCIe connectors evenly across the three PCIe slots. Should I be considering a new PSU? Would a single rail 1000W one solve the problem?

Sounds like it could be a power issue, especially if your system's pulling more than your PSU can deliver. Have you checked your CPU and case temperatures? If those are fine, then I’d suggest looking into the total power draw. A killawatt meter can help you measure that. Upgrading to a 1000W or even a 1200W PSU could really solve your problems, but it’s worth confirming what your system is pulling first. Good luck!
It's definitely crucial to connect your GPU with three separate PCIe cables, which you're doing right. If it’s still shutting down, it might be classic signs of your PSU not being able to handle the load, especially during intense gaming or VR sessions. A higher wattage PSU would likely provide the headroom you need.
I had a similar issue when I first set up my rig. If you're sure your temps are fine and you have the right cables, then an upgrade might be necessary. A good quality 1000W PSU should definitely give you that extra buffer you need for stability.
