Help! My 8TB Seagate Barracuda Keeps Crashing My Computer

I recently purchased an 8TB Seagate Barracuda and paired it with a Sabrent external HDD enclosure. For the first couple of days, everything was working smoothly and I was able to back up a lot of data. However, it has since become totally unresponsive. Now, I get an "E:/ Parameter is incorrect" error, and accessing it through File Explorer freezes my entire system. When I attempt to use the Command Prompt for chkdsk, it says "access denied." Hard Disk Sentinel recognizes it but crashes when I try to access it. The only way I can restart my computer is by unplugging the HDD enclosure. I thought this was a brand new drive, so I'm considering returning it, but I'd like to know if there are any other solutions first.

Since you recently added both the 8TB drive and the Sabrent enclosure, it's important to narrow down where the problem lies. If you're using a USB3 port, try connecting it to a USB2 port instead, preferably one on the motherboard rather than the front panel. Sometimes devices can be finicky that way. If you're using a desktop, consider removing the drive from the enclosure and connecting it directly to the SATA port on your motherboard to see if it works that way.

I’m on a laptop, unfortunately. I noticed I had some connectivity issues with USB3 but was more stable using a USB2 port. I’m planning to borrow my friend’s external HDD later to see if that helps.
