Hey everyone, I'm having a real headache with my Asus VG245 monitor. I bought it second-hand about six months ago and was given a 19V laptop adapter instead of the required 12V 3A power supply. I just discovered this mix-up. This morning, after a brief power outage, my monitor started to switch on and off by itself and made a weird 'catcatcat' noise. Now it won't respond at all unless I slightly tilt it, and the annoying noise comes back. I've opened up the monitor and didn't find any burnt components or obvious damage. What should I do? Any advice would be super helpful!

First things first, you need to check the power supply going into the monitor. It’s crucial to make sure it's actually getting the right voltage. If you suspect it’s the adapter, that might be your first step to troubleshoot.
I’d double-check your sources because everywhere I’ve looked says the Asus VG245 actually needs 19V. Are you sure about the 12V requirement? It seems very unlikely that a 19V supply would not cause instant issues if 12V was really the standard.
Honestly, if you really fed it 19V instead of the required 12V, there's a chance you’ve fried it. I'm surprised it hasn’t had issues sooner. If that power surge hit right after the outage, it might have caused irreversible damage to both the adapter and the monitor. You might want to find a 12V 3A power supply (just ensure the amperage goes higher while keeping the voltage at 12V) and see if that solves the issue.

You’re right! I just checked the manual, and the claim about it needing 12V was incorrect. So what should I do now?
