I just noticed that one of my chats has reverted back to a state from three months ago, deleting all the conversations we've had since then. The chat is still listed, but everything from the last three months is gone. This chat is really important for a personal project I'm working on. I've already reached out to support, but they're taking a long time to respond. Has anyone else gone through this? Any tips on recovering the messages?

I wish I could say there's hope, but recovery can be tricky. If the messages are just not showing up, there's a tiny chance they could be retrievable—but that often needs technical help from the devs. However, if they've been deleted, they’re likely gone for good. I've heard OpenAI's support might not respond quickly, so keep pushing them if your project hinges on this. In the future, it's a good habit to back things up or use tools that can save conversations. Even converting chats to PDF could work!
Thanks for your response, I’ve come to terms with my loss haha.
If you're using the app, try opening the chat in your browser. Sometimes the app doesn't show earlier parts of the conversation. Scroll up in the chat; you might still find the old messages layered under newer ones. Just make sure you’re looking in the right place!
This has happened to me too! It’s super annoying. My best advice is to break your chats into segments. I’ve started doing it weekly since this incident. Also, for catharsis, try getting ChatGPT to grovel—might help a bit!
Don't forget to export your chats regularly! You can find the option under your account settings. If you consented to sharing data for improvements, your export might include even the deleted messages. So there's a glimmer of hope there!
Are you using a specific tool? Recommendations?
Yeah, this kind of thing happens sometimes. Honestly, I recommend creating new chats regularly—like once a week. This way, you keep things manageable and ChatGPT can still reference previous chats. Just a bummer that not all features work on Teams yet!
There's no way to do this right now and I've been trying to find a way. You have to manually copy and paste each visible screen. Really sucks that there's no "export chat to PDF" feature.
