Help! My Computer Freezes During Gaming—Any Ideas?

I've been having a frustrating problem with my computer lately. When I play games, everything runs smoothly for a while without any lag, but after a few minutes, my PC completely freezes. The only way to get it working again is to shut it down using the power button. I've monitored the performance while gaming, and my PC isn't even hitting 70% usage, plus the temperatures are fine. This issue only seems to happen during gaming sessions, and I'm stumped on what to do next.

It might be time to suspect a failing GPU. If you're noticing any artifacts or glitches during your gameplay, it could be a sign that your graphics card is on the way out.

One thing you could try is turning off EXPO/XMP in your BIOS. Also, make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your hardware. Sometimes, driver issues can cause unexpected freezes too.

Have you added any new hardware recently? I faced a similar freezing issue when I upgraded to a 5070ti. It turned out to be a power supply problem. I’d suggest checking your RAM and power supply first, as that might be the culprit.

You can check the Event Viewer app for any logs related to the freezes. Go to 'Windows Logs' and then 'System'. Look for any errors that happened around the time your computer froze; that should give you a clue.
