Help! My Computer Stopped Working After a Spill

Hey everyone, I had a bit of a mishap last night while trying to download some games overnight. I accidentally left a mug of water on top of my PC case. During the night, I knocked it over while sleeping, and water spilled into the case and hit the HDMI cable. I woke up to a loud bang and the smell of smoke. Now, my computer doesn't turn on, and when I checked the power supply by itself, it started smoking! I'm not sure what to do next. Is there a safe way to test the individual components, or should I just take it to a tech shop? Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like your power supply is probably toast. The big question is whether it took the rest of your PC with it. I’d recommend getting a new power supply and trying that first. If your computer still doesn't work after you swap it out, then it might be time to visit the shop.

First things first, you'll want to disassemble your whole PC. Start with the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and your video card if you don't have onboard graphics. Check each part one by one to see if they work. You may have only damaged the power supply, so it’s worth checking the other components too.
