Hey everyone! I'm trying to help my dad with some issues he's having on his Windows 11 laptop. He's been struggling with a pretty annoying problem where he can't delete any files—like regular Excel and Word docs. When he selects a file, the trash can icon is greyed out and there's no delete option in the right-click menu. Even dragging files to the recycle bin just shows a 'no entry' sign.
I've looked into it and tried using the Admin Command window for a force delete, plus I tried hitting 'Windows + Delete', but nothing seems to work.
Also, I'm seeing a message that says 'Account Disconnected' in the top right of the file explorer. Could that be affecting things? My dad has McAfee antivirus, and there's an option to 'shred' files through McAfee—could that be messing with his ability to just delete normally?
I'm really stumped here and could use any advice! And why does he always seem to run into these tech issues while I rarely do? Is he accidentally hitting random keys or is it just that the family tech support (my brother and brother-in-law) are lacking? Thanks in advance for any tips!

It sounds like your dad's user account might not have ownership of those files, which could explain why he can't delete them. You should check the file permissions. Try right-clicking on one of the files, selecting Properties, and then going to the Security tab to see if he has the necessary permissions. Also, try saving changes to one of those files. If that doesn’t work, we might need to dig deeper into the account settings.
As for the mystery tech issues, it could be a mix of small accidents like accidental key presses or perhaps just not understanding what's going on with the interface. Older versions of Windows were quite different, and sometimes it takes a bit to get used to the new layouts in Windows 11.
Definitely check that 'Account Disconnected' message; it could be related. If the account isn’t connected, it might restrict certain actions like file deletion. Also, take a look at McAfee settings; sometimes, antivirus programs can interfere with normal file operations. You might want to temporarily disable it to see if that resolves the issue.
