Help! My Ethernet is Stuck at 100 Mbps – Should I Replace the Motherboard?

I have a GIGABYTE B650M AORUS ELITE AX motherboard, and my internet speeds have dropped from a consistent 600-700 Mbps down to under 100 Mbps. I've already tested everything I could think of: my modem and cables are fine, since they work with my laptop just fine. I checked my LAN port's settings and saw that it's only negotiating 100 Mbps. I've tried changing 'Speed & Duplex' settings, resetting network settings, running various command prompts, and even switching cables, but nothing seems to work. Given that the LAN port seems to be the issue, is there anything else I can try before jumping to replace the whole motherboard? It's only a few months old and still under warranty, but I'm worried about the hassle of taking everything apart.

You should definitely clean your LAN port; sometimes dust or debris can cause issues. Also, ensure that your network isn't congested by too many devices connecting to it.

Before considering a motherboard replacement, I suggest you try using a USB Ethernet adapter as a temporary solution. It's low-cost and can get you back up to speed while you figure out the NIC issue.

I was worried about latency with a USB adapter, especially since I game a lot. But if it works, I might just try it as a backup plan.

It sounds like your NIC might not be negotiating properly. Have you tried updating the drivers for your ethernet adapter and the BIOS for your motherboard? Sometimes those updates can fix weird issues.

Good point! I’ll check for any updates. I didn't think of that. Definitely worth a shot!
