I recently encountered a frustrating issue with my Windows laptop. It told me that it couldn't sign me in, and after unplugging and restarting, I discovered that all my files are gone! This has really stressed me out, and I'm seeking any help I can get. I did notice that I can still find and interact with my files through the Windows search bar, but they won't show up in the files application or on my desktop. What should I do?

First, try restarting your computer again. Sometimes a simple reset can resolve these login issues. If that doesn’t work, go to File Explorer and look for your old files manually by navigating to C:Users. Check if your user folder is still there, like C:UsersYourName. If it's there, see if your files are inside. If not, you might need to transfer them to a new profile if possible.
The files only appear when I search for them in the Windows bar. I’m really at a loss here.
Have you checked under C:Users? It sounds like you might be logged into a different Windows account. That can often cause this issue. Just make sure you’re on the right profile.
I don’t have any other accounts on my laptop. I’m definitely on the only user account, but all my files seem to be gone.
I managed to find the files using the search bar, but they still don’t show up anywhere in the Files app or on my desktop.

My user folder doesn’t show up anymore, even though it seems the space is still taken up on my drive.
