Hey everyone! I've been having a frustrating issue over the past few months where several games keep crashing on me, including War Thunder, Overwatch, Ark Survival Ascended, R.E.P.O, and Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age. I've tried changing out a bunch of components in my PC, including the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and boot drive. Here's my current setup:
- Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk Z890 (previously an Asus WiFi DDR5 motherboard)
- CPU: Intel Ultra 7 - 265k (previously an i7 12700k)
- RAM: Kingston FURY Beast DDR5 5600MHz (4x16GB) (previously 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MT 2x16GB)
- GPU: Asus TUF RTX4080
- PSU: CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x 850W
- Storage: Various Samsung/Kingston M.2 4th Gen SSDs
I'm totally stumped on why this is happening. I suspect it could be the RAM or the VRAM on the GPU. I did swap the RAM already, but I still have an older kit lying around. My temperatures seem fine according to Core Temp, and my GPU is running cool. Once, I saw a spike in the "copy" section of the GPU graphs in Task Manager right before a crash in War Thunder. Any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to stress test your RAM. The Intel Ultra series really benefits from higher quality RAM, and the current 5600MHz is on the slower side. Ideally, you'd want 7200MHz RAM in a 2-module configuration. That being said, it's not clear if this is what’s causing your game crashes, but running Memory Stress Tests like MemTest86 or AIDA could help identify any issues with your RAM.
First things first, have you updated your GPU drivers? Sometimes outdated drivers can cause random crashes.
Yeah, I updated it last night to the newest version.
Thank you for the great feedback on the RAM! What kind of RAM would you recommend I switch to? I'll definitely run some stress tests on the memory.
